MMS2G No Longer MIA

If you’re hearing “Where did you go?” repeated in the background by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones when we start refering to ActivateMMS2G by geniusan, you’re not the only one.
No longer a fixture in Cydia many Jailbroken iPhoners are left trying to figure out how to Activate MMS on their iPhone 2G. Now tune out the Bosstones. MMS for the iPhone 2G is still running strong in one form or another.

Solution through Cydia:
1. Add Source http://cydia.ifoneguide.nl
2. Install Native MMS iPhone 2G
3. Reboot your iPhone
4. Go to: Settings –> General –> Network –> Cellular Data Network
and enter in your carrier settings
5. Reboot your iPhone
6. Start MMSing
OR

1. Add Source http://sinfuliphonerepo.com
2. Install Enable MMS for 2G & 3.0 or Enable MMS for 2G & 3.1.2
3. Reboot your iPhone
4. Go to: Settings –> General –> Network –> Cellular Data Network
and enter in your carrier settings
5. Reboot your iPhone
6. Start MMSing
Manual Solution:
1. Download MMS2G
2. SSH into your iPhone and copy mms2g.deb to /var/root
In Terminal
1. Type: ssh root@ur.ip.address.here
2. Type: dpkg -i mms2g.deb
3. Reboot
IMPORTANT UPDATE
After reading about an iPhone crashing in the comments below, I did some research to see what other issues people might be having with these MMS tweaks.
1. DO NOT install on an iPhone 3G - It will crash (these are only 2G solutions)
2. ActivateMMS2G may not work properly if you have upgraded past firmware 3.0.1 - it has not been updated to work on subsequent firmwares.
3. Native MMS iPhone 2G may have been is designed for firmware 3.1.2 only - although success with the tweak seems to vary across the boards
Please update your iPhone to a custom 3.1.2 firmware. Then follow the instructions above to activate mms. If you are on 3.0 and do not want to upgrade, please use terminal and the attached ActivateMMS2G deb file to activate or use the sinfuliphone repo.
I have personally installed Native MMS on my iPhone 2G with custom firmware 3.1.2 (created with PwnageTool) and can confirm that it is working. I have also installed Enable MMS from the sinfuliphone repo without any issues.
ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR IPHONE BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY TWEAKS/PATCHES/ETC!
[...] Native MMS iPhone 2G Replaces ActivateMMS2g *SwirlyMMS charges $8 to enable MMS for just one iPhone; so that if you switch iPhone’s you need a new license Share and Enjoy: [...]
I installed it but I don’t seem to have this feature showing up in either my native messages app or does it work in Swirly MMS. Has anyone been able to get it to work on their 2g?
@Steve
Did you restart your iPhone and plug in your carrier settings? It does not work in conjunction with SwirlyMMS, it enables MMS in your native iPhone Messaging app.
If it does not work the manual method might be a better venue to pursue. Let me know how it goes and how I might be able to help.
~meebz
really appreciate you doing this for the general public meebz~. keep up the good work. I’m installing it, if I’m not back that means it works and i luv you!
i have an iPhone 2g on 3.0 software… installed this… and it gets stuck on the start-up apple screen. =(
@brian
i am sorry to hear that it crashed your iPhone. I hate when that happens, but let’s see what we can do to fix it.
What firmware were you on when it happened and what iPhone were you using (2G?)?
Have you tried going through redsn0w again to avoid restoring?
If you’re back up and running, I can help you do the terminal stuff through teamviewer. I haven’t had any issues with ActivateMMS2G, I’ve heard people have success with Native MMS.

Hi there,
not working for me
iPhone 2G, on 3.1.2 blackrained.
I don’t have the “Cellular Data Network“ in my network settings.
Did the installation twice (incl. reboots) with no luck but at least the device still works properly…
Any idea?
c.
Native definitely just bricked my iPhone. Restoring now ….
I’m having the same problem. I’ve used Redsn0w but still can’t get it to get passed the reboot screen.
i have the same problem. After the installation my phone stuck . I tried everything. but the only i can see is apple logo. I dont want to restore, i hate to do everything from the begining. iphone 2g OS 3.0 jailbreak/unlock
crashed my phone too, its stuck on the pineapple
Hi Everyone,
I have made an update to the post above. It is working, but you must be on Firmware 3.1.2. Anything below that firmware may crash your iPhone.
The best way to be on 3.1.2 is to restore your iPhone to a custom 3.1.2 firmware. To get a custom firmware, use PwnageTool (if you are on a mac).
If you are not able to find custom firmware on the web or do have access to a mac, feel free to contact me and I’ll point you in the right direction.

have an AT&T 2G iphone running firmware 3.1.2. it did NOT work for me either. I can download the file, but in fails when installing. keep getting error sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned
trying to overite ‘/System/Library/CoreServices/SprinbBoard.app/M68MP .plist’, which is also in package de.sendowski.asbatterya30
have a 2g iphone on AT&T network firmware 3.1.2
after reboot, cellular network not is not there…..
Hello Meebz,
I am running 2g3.0 pwnd and don’t have a pwnd copy of 3.1.2. Could you please “point me in the right direction?
Thanks!!!
@Donalds
It could be that when you pwned your AT&T iPhone you didn’t have it unlock it for use with any cellular network.
But I am just speculating as to why.
@Kyle
Here is a link to a custom 3.1.2 file:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/pyvhqb
(Shift + Restore in iTunes to it)
Meebz - I’m running the 3.0 jailbroken software as well can you email me directions on how to get the Native MMS installation. I’m a novice so the more details the better. Thanks for the help and hard work!!
@Ryan
Add the sinfuliphone repo (instructions just updated in the post) and try using the Enable MMS for 3.0. Let me know if it works for you. If not, we can try the other methods of updating to 3.1.2 or using terminal.
sinful worked…everything is there but idk my carrier settings and when i try to send a pic it gets so far then stops and says its unable to send…plz help me…im on AT&T
@Amby
Sounds like a settings issue. Make sure when you go to: Settings –> General –> Network –> Cellular Data Network that you enter the correct carrier settings and that AT&T has MMS enabled on your account.
You can try this to see if it works:
APN: wap.cingular;
Username: wap@cingulargprs.com;
Password which is case sensitive: CINGULAR1;
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com;
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
Keep me posted on your progress or if you need anything else.
Forgive my ignorance but is this the same app as mms2g? Reason I ask is a friend has it installed on their phone and it worked ok but recently is unable to receive a pic in their phone. All they get is a link to view it.
Iphone 2g 3.0 Pwnage
followed these steps and my iphone is stuck on the boot logo:
1. Add Source http://cydia.ifoneguide.nl
2. Install Native MMS iPhone 2G
3. Reboot your iPhone
4. Go to: Settings –> General –> Network –> Cellular Data Network
and enter in your carrier settings
5. Reboot your iPhone
6. Start MMSing
Any suggestions?
i used enable mms 2g 3.1.2 i got the pic icon n used the mms settings u posted but the message failure came up? im on 3.1.2 blackra1n on my 2g iphone
i did everything.. but when i try to send a pic to an at&t phone and they cant reciev and when i try to send to a tmobile phone and it works…anybody no wats worng??
Is the firmware above unlocked and will I have to run blackra1n every time I need to reboot my phone? I have T-Mobile.
@ed
yes it does the same thing as mms2g.
@brandon
did you have the most recent firmware installed?
@jon
what carrier are you using?
@kj
does their at&t phone have mms enabled?
@tony
the firmware is unlocked and jailbroken using pwnagetool, no blackra1n needed, no problems with rebooting your iPhone.
When I attempt to input my mms carrier settings, they will not save. They disappear after I exit the Cellular Data Screen. Any suggestions? How do I keep the settings?
I’m using a 2g iphone with 3.1.2 (pwnage tool) and I installed Sinful and it appears to be working. (i see the camera icon in messages app) but when i send a picture it gets real close and fails. I tried entering the mms settings you posted above but they wont stick. after i enter them and press home, when i go back into settings they are changed back to default. HELP!!!!!
-I downloaded native mms for 2g 3.1.2
-i have enabled mms on my iphone
-i can see cellular network settings
-i used blackra1n
-i have a 2g 3.1.2 iphone
When i try to add the settings you have above for att, it does not work. The settings go away when i look back in the carrier network settings. i have read multiple other forums and many seem to have the same problem. One thing i am seeing is people calling att asking for wap push. Is this something everyone needs to do?
I have 8gig 2g iphone (blackra1n) w/ custom 3.1.2 (tmobile unlimited data plan)
-Added Source http://cydia.ifoneguide.nl
-Installed Native MMS iPhone 2G
-Reboot iPhone
-Went to: Settings –> General –> Network –> Cellular Data Network
and entered epc.
-Reboot iPhone
could not send or receive mms
Tried “sinful” process, phone failed to boot. In custom 3.1.2 restore process now. This sucks. Any ideas?
This and no other method seems to work on the 2g iphone with 3.1.2. It seems as though as soon as you put your sim in the 2g iphone, att recognizes this and almost immediately blocks mms because i may get 1 message at first after swapping my sim from a nokia but after that no more.
I have I a jailbroke 2g with enable mms for 2g firmware 3.1.2 downloaded an install. Has AT&T blocked this again cause I get to carrier settings an everytime I try to put them in the disappear as soon as I leave the cell data network screen. What am I doing wrong.
i got this working one time both sending and receiving BUT the very next time i tried to send it didn’t work.
i’m noticing that the AT&T carrier settings i enter from meebz post above are not sticking. i enter them but when i click back and then re-enter the Cellular Data screen the APN, User, Passwd are empty. this is in the MMS section. all other fields on the screen save their info.
any clues as to what is causing this is? i’ve googled on it but haven’t found anything. i’m wondering if another thing i’ve installed is overwriting it.
thanks for the very helpful post and comments.
thank you..i love u.. u are my hero.
If ur iphone gets stuck close to the end or at all when sending an mms message its because data roaming is disabled. But don’t forget, activating this feature costs adittional money to your T-Moble plan.. or any plan I think.
Hi All,
Is there any update how to enabling MMS for iphone 2G running on 3.1.3 ?
Thanks.
it work for me…. but then i cant receive and pics…. kept on saying that “the media content was not included due to a picture resolution or message size restriction”…. any ideas how to fix that guys ??
Hey, I’m on a standard 3.1.2 firmware. if i change to your custom 3.1.2, will all my music be deleted and need to be reloaded?
@those who are having issues with mms not sending
your settings are wrong. if you are on AT&T, you are blocked from sending mms. iPhone 2Gs won’t keep different data and mms settings, they have to be the same.
wap.voicestream.com for data
wap.voicestream.com for mms
can’t have (on an iPhone 2G)
wap.voicestream.com for data
epc.t-mobile.com for mms
settings will disappear after you leave the screen.
@jawa8
messaging is messaging, at least in the U.S. you don’t get charged differently for a text message or a picture message unless you are on an old plan. It gets stuck at the end because the mms settings are incorrect.
@Don_007
why would you update to 3.1.3? =P (and the answer is no)
@Raziel
are you with t-mobile, you may need to try different settings in the max picture size.
@Luke
Yes! Back up your iPhone before doing anything (sync it). Then when you restore to a custom firmware, instead of setting it up as a new iphone you can restore from a previous iphone back up. That should put everything back on.
Help me please!!!! i have an iPhone 2g on 3.1,2 software… installed this… and it gets stuck on the start-up apple screen. =(
Acepto ayuda en tambien en espaňol. Gracias
Please help for 3.13…. or have to downgrade to 3.12? how? thanks…
Meebz, I have iphone 2G on 3.0.1. I would like to install native mms 2G but need to upgrade to 3.1.2. I downloaded your custom 3.1.2.ipsw above. I do not have a mac computer. Will the ipsw still work on my iTune 8 (have not upgraded yet) in Windows XP? If I did that, will I lose all the paid apps such as Navigon and roqybluetooth? Thanks for your help.
I have the iphone 2g , using at&t, running the appropriate os. As with some of the others I am having problems.
1. When I enter the apn, etc and then recheck it is gone
2. When I attempt to send a message with a photo it gets almost to the end and stops with error
3. Have no problem sending messages without photos
4. I subscribe to text messaging but not data
Any advice, recommendations, etc would be greatly appreciated
need some help guys. i can send and receive mms on my 2G only SOMETIMES. any reason why it works sometimes and other times not? thanks
i installed it and everything is there but idk my carrier settings and when i try to send a pic it gets so far then stops and says its unable to send…plz help me…im on t-mobile
Did everything and when I rebooted it can’t find my network……just says Searching…
I have a 2g 3.1.2 and its unlocked to tmobile.
Any suggestions?
What are the carrier settings for T-Mobile.?
added iphoneguide and sinfull, after clicking install it only comes up w a note that says: The requested modifications cannot be applied due to required dependencies or conflicts that cannot be automatically found or fixed. 2G 3.1.3 pwngtool’d. guess i have to downgrade?
hi i am frm pakistan nd i hav different carrier settings nd my mms settings doesnot save as i leave the screen … wot to do swirly not working either :(( helpppp
hi,
i got thw cel network settinga enter then and they go away. still cant send texts. this is so annyoing becaus it worked before when i used the one from sinful…on 3.1.2
If on 3.1.3:
Downgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes and a custom restore file. Restoring will erase your iPhone so back up everything first. You can restore from a back up afterwards, but a lot of Cydia programs and files will be lost (such as videos, so back them up!)
If settings won’t save:
That’s a 2G specific issue, no current solution. Must be same APN for MMS and Internet, so you have to choose between one or the other.
3G and up doesn’t have this issue.
Hope that helps!
~Meebz
