.CAF is an audio format Apple uses in it’s iPhone infrastructure for UISounds (Lock, Unlock, Voicemail, New Mail, etc).
You can convert .MP3, .WAV, .AAC, .AIFF, and Apple Lossless audio files to .CAF using iTunes.
Converting to .CAF File
1. Set your Import Settings in iTunes to Import Using: AIFF Encoder
(Open iTunes Preferences, Under General Settings “When you insert a CD:” Click the Import Settings button)
2. Convert the audio file you want to .AIFF
(Select Song in iTunes, Go to Advanced, Create AIFF Version)
3. Drag the Newly Created Song to your Desktop and Rename the .AIFF extension to .CAF
brilliant just one thing i uploaded it through ifile then had to rename the file on the iphone to sms-recieved6.caf from uploaded and ow i have a new sms alert cool.
@stu-b
glad you liked the tutorial. another way to quickly replace sms sounds is through Winterboard.
Create a folder (name of your sound), then inside of that folder create another one called “UISounds” and move your .caf files in there; giving them the appropriate names such as:
alarm.caf
lock.caf
unlock.caf
sms-received1.caf (Tri-tone)
sms-received2.caf (Chime)
sms-received3.caf (Glass)
sms-received4.caf (Horn)
sms-received5.caf (Bell)
sms-received6.caf (Electronic)
etc.
After your done, just SSH into your iPhone
http://pineappleiphone.com/jailbreak/how-to-ssh-into-your-iphone-in-5-easy-steps/
Then go to –> Var –> Stash –> Themes.######(<–different combo of numbers and letters) and drag your new folder in.
You can then go to Winterboard and activate your sounds.
