Erica Sadun releases Freemoji, an app that enables emoticons on your Apple iPhone.

The release of Firmware 2.2 enabled emoticons (emoji) exclusively for iPhones running on a Japanese network. Thankfully, all other iPhone users did not have to wait long for Erica Sadun to release a solution.
Freemoji is available on Cydia as a free download and will work on any jailbroken iPhone running firmware 2.2.X and up.

Steps to Enable:
1. Open the Free Emoji App
2. Switch Emoji Support to On
Next:
1. Go to Settings
2. Keyboard
3. International Keyboards
4. Japanese
5. Switch Emoji support to ON
To Disable:
1. Open App
2. Switch Emoji Support to OFF

SpiceLoop has released iEmoji - Unlock Emoji in the AppStore.

iEmoji replicates the function of Freemoji and additionaly includes a list of “nerd” codes for those looking to add more useless knowledge to their emoji lifestyle.

All iPhones on firmware 2.2.X may now enable emoji by downloading this free app from the AppStore and following the same instructions as Freemoji.
