“The Top Five Apps Compete for Your iPhone Screen Time”

Applications have existed on Apple’s mobile wonder long before the mention of the Apple App store. Of the top five, three of these applications are nothing more than options that have been a standard offering in the mobile market.

Feel free to submit your favorite apps below.

Swirly MMS

Photobucket The first and only MMS application on the iPhone. Primarily used to make use of your mms plan by allowing you to send and receive pictures.*

iPhone Video Recorder

Photobucket The first fully functional video recorder on the iPhone**. Records audio and video (15 fps), encodes and gives the option to upload to youtube or email out.

Ringtones

Photobucket Bypasses the need to create ringtones on a computer. Encodes, cuts and transfers ringtones (from your songs library) directly on the iPhone.***

Agile Messenger

Photobucket IM Everything. A well-developed program that skillfully brings together several chat clients (icq, msn, aol, yahoo, jabber, googletalk) under a colorful and ample-featured interface.

Wallpaper

Photobucket A program to share and view wallpaper’s from around the iPhone world.**** The genius lies in it’s simplicity; making it the most well-received and beloved program among iPhone users.

—————————————–FOOTNOTES—————————————

*with Apple Firmware 1.1.4 use “IMMESS MMS Viewer”, a program (in beta) that serves as a superior alternative to the MobilePreview/MobileFinder combination that was required under previous firmwares.

**keep an eye out for uShow, a promising video recording app from Monster and Friends.
Photobucket

***Upgrading to 1.1.4, only to realize that Erica Sadun’s Sendsong is limited to functioning in earlier firmwares becomes a huge let down (as does the 30 second ringtone limit, which was not an issue in 1.1.2 and under).

****if you miss the option to send your wallpapers to your camera roll, install the Capture program and use it to snap a screen shot of your saved wallpaper.
