You can download it in Cydia under the Sections Tab –> Themes (SpringBoard) or just go to the Search tab and type in Julius.

You have to have a Jailbroken iPhone. Use PwnageTool or QuickPwn to Jailbreak. Cydia will appear as a new app icon after you jailbreak. Install Winterboard from Cydia, then you can install and apply themes.

Just Download, Plug in your iPhone and follow the instructions. It takes approximately 5 minutes.

Yes it will. Unfortunately I’ve only made 16 icons for it based on the Paul Frank characters that were available at the time. I will look to update it to support more apps in the future.

Thanks! I’m really glad you guys like it. I recently updated the theme with a lockscreen and wallpaper and may do a complete overhaul of it when I get a chance to add sounds and more icons.
pretty new at this, ok so cydia then install, then wat? says something about rebooting the phone? how do i do that? also, will it slow down my phone and how do i change back to original theme if i want to? thanks!

To Use:
1. Make sure you have Winterboard installed
(available through cydia)
2. Open Winterboard and select Paul Frank “Julius & Friends”
(a check mark will appear).
3. Hit the home button
(you will see the spinning “waiting/processing” image while it kicks you out to the lock screen should take about 10 or so seconds.)
4. Enjoy your new theme
You should not see any significant change in your iPhone speed from applying this theme.
To Remove:
1. Open Winterboard and uncheck Paul Frank “Julius & Friends”
2. Hit the home button.

Does this jailbraking think work with a German IPhone 3G as well? And is it possible that it will damage the IPhone? I’m pretty new to this whole thing and was scared shitless that the first thing I read after installing Quickpwn is that they’re not responsible for any damage!

Thanks KiWi you should have no problem installing it on an ipod touch or iPhone as long as it is jailbroken.
So far you can jailbreak your new generation iPod Touch with redsn0w, although it looks like it may be a complicated process. You could wait for the an automated solution which I’m sure should be released soon. I recommend waiting unless you are comfortable tethering your iPod touch to your computer.
For everyone else, if you have a first generation iPod Touch, you can just use QuickPwn to jailbreak it.
After it is jailbroken, just go into Cydia do a search for and download Winterboard, then Julius & Friends.

Sorry about the 3G icon, I’ll include that in the next update. I originally released Julius & Friends before the 3G came out, so that’s why it’s not showing up.
I did not make a dialer or notes for it, but I will work on incorporating that when i get a chance.

I am in love with this theme and really want to put it on my iphone but am really confused on how this works becauase it would be my first time jailbreaking the phone. I think I understand most of it on the tutorial but am wondering what winterboard and cydia are?

np i just need to know if you have an iPhone or iPhone 3G and if you are on Windows or Mac. I guess you can also let me know what firmware you are on (go into settings –> general –> about –>”Version”)
Cydia is like an AppStore for jailbroken iPhones. You can download a lot of free apps, tweaks, themes and games. Cydia automatically appears on your iPhone home screen after you jailbreak your iPhone.
Winterboard is an app in Cydia that you use to apply themes. You find themes you like in Cydia and install them. You then exit out to your home screen and open WinterBoard. The theme you downloaded appears there. Select the theme and exit out by hitting the home button. Your iPhone will process the theme change and kick you out to the lockscreen. Wallah! Your new theme is applied.
I can make a step-by-step tutorial for you when you send me back the info on your iPhone and OS.

I have an iPhone 3G and use a Mac. My firmware is 2.2.1 (5H11).
So i tried following the tutorial that you had in a post by MacGeek. I did everything right but at the end after I restored the iPhone after I had jailbreaked it on using the Pwnage Tool, when I unplugged my iPhone, Cydia did not appear as a button??
I would much appreciate a step-by-step guide.

The MacGeek tutorial is a bit outdated. You really won’t have to go through a lot of steps or even use PwnageTool to jailbreak your 3G on 2.2.1.
Using QuickPwn is the fastest way to jailbreak your iPhone 3G if you don’t care about being locked to AT&T.
-I would recommend doing a fresh restore to Firmware 2.2.1 using iTunes, instead of the restore to the Custom Firmware 2.2.1 made through PwnageTool before moving on…after it’s done, if it asks if you would like to set up as a new iPhone or restore from back up of “your iphone name”, you can choose restore from back up of “your iphone name”-
Jailbreak your iPhone 3G on Firmware 2.2.1:
1. Download the latest version of QuickPwn (2.2.5)

-After it downloads-
A. Open the .dmg
B. Drag the QuickPwn icon to your desktop.
(This is a very important step. Run the program from your Desktop NOT from inside .dmg)
2. Plug in your iPhone 3G and follow the steps (see video below if you want to get an idea of the process)
-This is the video tutorial I did for jailbreaking firmware 2.2 with QuickPwn, it’s the same method for jailbreaking firmware 2.2.1-

3. Don’t unplug or mess with your iPhone until it restarts a couple of times on it’s own and takes you to the Lockscreen.
After that you should be jailbroken and see a Cydia icon on your home screen. Just make sure to be patient and not unplug early. It will restart a few times, so wait until your iPhone is not doing anything for a minute or two.
Also, it’s probably a good idea to have your lock setting set to never (settings –> general –> “Auto-Lock” –> Never) while you are jailbreaking.
If you’re on Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.6 and are running into a problem with QuickPwn were it locks up before the jailbreak (it’ll probably say something like “sending file to iPhone…” for a long time and nothing happens, you can use this post to help enable DFU mode again.

You can SSH into your iPhone:

Then go to Var –>Stash–>Themes.x#x#x (a variation of that)
Go into the Paul Frank “Julius & Friends” Folder –> Icons.
You’ll have access to all the icons.

In Installer or Cydia, you can type “Paul Frank” or “Julius” or “Meebz” in the search box and it should come up. Make sure Installer and Cydia are fully updated.
It could be that you might not have the repository installed.
To check in Cydia:
Go to Manage –> Sources and see if you have “BigBoss & Planet-iPhones” installed.
If it’s not, go to Sections–>Repositories to add it.

I’ve just updated to 3.0 (jailbroken/unlocked) and the the text message icon is different and the text message Paul Frank theme is no longer there. I don’t know if I am doing something wrong or if there needs to be changes but I’m hoping to have the cute text message screen back again! Thanks very much.

Great theme and thank you! It matches my iTouch 2G PF skin. I’ve had no probs jailbreaking my iTouch 2G and installing via Cydia except for one thing… it won’t change my weather icon!
Do I have to have certain settings for my weather icon and if so, what should they be?

OK. I rebooted my ipod instead of just logging out and in again and weather icon works just fine. (Duh!) FYI it works with 3.0 people!

Hi everyone, as you can imagine firmware 3.0 has cause a few issues with the way themes are displayed. It mostly rewrote how things were named. I am working to release an update as soon as I get a chance. In the meantime I may release the updates in parts, so you can decide what you like and don’t like about the them. I just finished a pf “j&f” notes theme for firmware 3.0, it looks really great and I hope you guys enjoy it.
I am still deciding whether I will create my own repository or continue to release it through others. I will keep you all posted. Thanks for your support.

Most of the themes I make are exclusive to the iPhone. I don’t have a sony ericsson to test the theme on, so I wouldn’t be able to release a compatible theme for it. Sorry about that.

Yes it works for the iPhone 3Gs, but it won’t display all the renamed icons until the next update.
Jailbreaking is a form of opening up your iPhone to allow unsanctioned programs to run. Unsanctioned meaning Apple doesn’t want you having them. Through Jailbreaking you can download themes, apps, tweaks, games that are not available on the App Store as well as open up your iPhone to be unlocked for use with any carrier. Unlocking strictly refers to using your iPhone on another carrier, a lot of people mix that and Jailbreaking up.
Jailbreaking is a software modification, so although there’s a slight chance of screwing up your iPhone, it is rarely irreversible. If it ever gives you issues, you can usually run a restore through iTunes. Jailbreaking use to be a lot harder back before Firmware 2.0. Now it’s quicker and usually safer. Most errors are human. Just make sure to be patient as the program finishes jailbreaking your iPhone (never unplug early).

The J & F theme doesn’t work with Messages on the iPhone 3GS. Will you fix that on an update?

I JBd my iphone 3gs thru blackra1n and have gotten Cydia.
Now, I’ve downloaded Winterboard, and this Julius theme from Cydia, but when I tap “Julius Theme” on Winterboard, it won’t work even after I reboot my phone….
I’ve tried other themes and it won’t work..
Any suggestions would be helpful

What firmware version do you have? Winterboard, I believe does not work on 3.1.2.

I will fix the messaging icon in an update. It’s really just a matter of renaming text.png to messages.png (in the meantime, if you know how to ssh, you can just rename it in the theme icon folder)
